Samsung’s mobile phone and tablets business was the highest revenue generating segment for the brand in FY 2018 and FY 2017

Samsung’s regulatory filings with the Registrar of Companies (ROC) reveal that the South Korea-based technology giant was able to generate a revenue of around Rs 60,000 crore during FY 2018. Despite this 10 per cent annual jump in Samsung’s revenue figures, its profit figures fell by almost 11 per cent in India.
These revenue and profit figures cover several business verticals operated by the brand in the country. The verticals include TV and home theater segment, mobile phones and tablets segment, home appliances segment, cellular network equipment business and software development business.
Apart from mobile phones and tablets vertical, all the Samsung business verticals registered increased profit in FY 2018, in comparison to FY 2017. It is also to be noted here that Samsung’s revenues from TV and home theater business segment dropped by approximately Rs 150 crore in FY 2018.

The revenue figures generated by Samsung mobile phones and tablets segment in FY 2018 stood at Rs 37,349.7 crore. Samsung’s mobile phones and tablets segment revenue during FY 2017 was Rs 27,163.9 crore. Despite these mammoth revenue figures, Samsung’s profit from these segments slipped own by approximately Rs 58.2 crore in FY 2018.
Samsung had made gross profit of Rs 3,474.1 crore in FY 2017. However, it was only able to make gross profit figures of Rs 3,415.9 crore during FY 2018. Samsung’s mobile phones and tablets business was also the highest revenue generating segment for the brand in FY 2018 and FY 2017.

Slipping in terms of revenue figures when compared to FY 2017, Samsung’s TV and home theater segment registered revenue figures of Rs Rs 4512.8 crore during FY 2018. However, it still was able to register gross profit figures of Rs 221.9 crore in the same financial year.
Samsung’s revenue figures from the segment in FY 2017 stood at Rs 4,661 crore. The brand was able to generate gross profit figures of Rs 118 crore from home appliances business in FY 2017. The TV segment in India saw a lot of developments during the year. Not only several brands have already started offering smart TVs in prices of conventional TVs, but a lot of new brands are also entering the Indian TV-ecosystem.

Both, revenue and as well as gross profit figures, registered growth in Samsung’s home appliance business during FY 2018. The brand managed to generate a revenue of Rs 6,732.2 crore in FY 2018, which is approximately Rs 886 crore more than Rs 5,846.3 crore revenue it had registered during FY 2017.
The gross profit figures made by Samsung in this segment stood at Rs 249.1 crore during FY 2018. The same figures were down to Rs 57.8 crore in FY 2017.
Samsung also entered semi-conductors and device solutions business vertical in India during this year. It had sold its printer business to HP last fiscal.
