Realme Sets up a Smartphone Manufacturing Factory in Bangladesh

Realme will be retailing Made-in-Bangladesh smartphones in India’s neighbouring country Bangladesh. The smartphone brand announced its entry into the country at an event held at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden last week.

“In Realme,we offer technological advancement to the market with our mobile phones and services.We are committed to bringing products to accommodate the daily needs of the tech-based youth community,” stated Tim Shao, Managing Director, Realme Bangladesh.

The brand is a part of China-based BBK Group. Smartphone brands Oppo, Vivo and Oneplus also operate under the umbrella of BBK Group. Oppo and Vivo are already operational in Bangladesh

Will market ‘Made in Bangladesh’ smartphones

The smartphone brand mentioned that its focus on Bangladesh market will be centered around 5G and AIOT technology. Realme’s official statement said that the brand has over 25 million users in the world.

Shao stated that the company will be retailing Made in Bangladesh smartphones. The brand announced that its factory for manufacturing smartphones is already functional in Gazipur, Bangladesh.

Smartphone market in Bangladesh

The smartphone market in Bangladesh, as per a report by Counterpoint Research, grew 45 per cent, year-on-year (YoY) during Q1 2019, according to the latest research from Counterpoint’s Market Monitor Service. This was due to the increase in the availability of locally manufactured devices. The volume of locally manufactured devices increased by 29 per cent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), and they now make up for 41 per cent of Bangladesh’s smartphone market.

In terms of brands, Samsung was the clear leader. Samsung’s shipments grew 203 per cent YoY, helping it capture the top spot for the first time in Bangladesh. It’s market share stood at 22%, while the former market leader, Symphony only had a 16 per cent market share. Symphony, the former market leader, is now the second best selling smartphone brand in Bangladesh.

China-based Xiaomi had a seven per cent market share and was among the top five smartphone brands during Q1 2019. Vivo grew at a stunning 1,133 per cent YoY with new launches such as Y91C, Y91i.
