Samsung is also planning to install 20 Onyx LED display screens in India by the end of 2019
South Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung introduced Onyx, an LED cinema screen, for the first time in Mumbai, in partnership with leading multiplex chain Inox. The company is also planning to install 20 such screens in India by the end of 2019.
Samsung claims that Onyx is the only Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) compliant LED display and it will be a game changer in the field of film exhibition.
The LED display will be installed at INOX, Malad. The company had launched its first LED display screen in August at PVR in New Delhi.
Transformational innovation
Speaking at the launch, Puneet Sethi, Vice President, Consumer Electronics Enterprise Business, Samsung India, said, “Onyx, another transformational innovation by Samsung, will change the way we watch movies and will mark a new chapter in the history of cinema. We are elated to partner with INOX in our endeavour to revolutionise the movie viewing experience in the city of dreams – Mumbai.”
“One of the advantages of Onyx Cinema LED is that it can uphold exceptional picture quality even at ambient lighting conditions,” he added.
Alok Tandon, Chief Executive Officer, INOX Leisure Limited, shared, “At INOX, we believe in the philosophy of ‘LIVE the Movie’ and commit the best cinematic experience to our customers. Our association with Samsung to launch World’s first cinema LED technology in Mumbai is a testimony of this commitment to them. Technology and innovation are at the core of INOX and we continue to redefine the cinema viewing experience by combining luxury with technology to present the best experience to our audience.”
The new LED display is 10 times brighter as compared to conventional projector and has infinite contrast ratio for more textured, detailed and visually rich content.
It is also unaffected by ambient light and upholds constant and distortion-free quality of picture.
