Sports wear and shoes brand Puma has announced its entry into the smart watch market in India. The company has launched its first smart watch, and is retailing the same through e-commerce as well as its offline stores here. Dubbed Puma PT9100, it is being retailed at Rs 19,995 on a popular e-commerce portal.

According to the International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker, the India market for wearable devices grew 30.9 per cent quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) in the second quarter of CY2019 (2Q19) and 123.6 per cent when compared to the same quarter a year ago, reaching an all-time high of three million shipments in a single quarter. This has further cemented India’s position as the third-largest wearables market in the world after China and USA.

“After a decline in the last quarter, watches saw a healthy 99.6 per cent year-on-year and 42.9 per cent QoQ growth in 2Q19. Fossil made a return after struggling with stock issues and became the leading wearable watch brand with 34 per cent category share,” read IDC’s report.

Designed with Fossil

A report published by the Mobile Indian highlighted the fact that Puma has designed this smart watch in collaboration with Fossil. It is also to be noted here that PT9100 is the first smart watch from the house of Puma. Fossil had recently showcased its Hybrid HR smartwatch technology.

“Engineered by Fossil Group’s 200-person research and development team, Hybrid HR is Fossil Group’s most advanced hybrid smartwatch technology ever, featuring the most important information at a glance – text messages, alerts, caller ID, heart rate and activity tracking – all with a two-week battery life. Hybrid HR technology will be available first from the Fossil brand this 2019 holiday retail season,” had read Fossil’s official statement.
