First 5G-compatible foldable smartphone
Huawei’s first foldable smartphone may score over Samsung’s foldable smartphone as the former has been developed keeping upcoming 5G networks under consideration. Samsung, on the other hand, had presented a foldable smartphone that supports only 4G.
However, there is a huge US$ 600 price difference between the two. While Samsung’s foldable smartphone costs US$ 1,998, Huawei has announced its smartphone at US$ 2,600. Huawei has used OLED display in its first foldable smartphone. It is still not clear whether the China-based brand is sourcing these display screens from Samsung, LG or any other company.
Samsung, without naming the processor that it used in its foldable smartphone, had said that it is based on the 7 nm manufacturing process. Huawei on the other hand, has used a Kirin 980 chipset, with its own first 5G modem.
Ryan Ding, Executive Director at Huawei , said, “The wave of 5G is sweeping the globe, giving us a better life empowered by new technologies. At the same time, the Gbit/s-level connections enabled by 5G and the monetisation of experience fueled by CloudX services give global carriers new business opportunities.”
