Xiaomi’s Head of Brand Marketing Has Called it Quits

Xiaomi’s Karan Shroff has joined Unacademy as its vice president (VP) of brand marketing in India. Karan was associated with Xiaomi as its head of brand marketing in India since July 2015.

One of Karan’s latest tweet read, “My last day (3rd Sept) at Xiaomi was as exciting as my 1st day. About 4 and a half years, tons of launches, 100s of campaigns and some bonds that will last a lifetime, I want to say one last time to everyone who stood by me through this incredible journey.”

It is to be noted here that Xiaomi’s global spokesperson and director of product management Donovan Sung had called it quits with Mi in July 2019. He has joined Google India.

Sung announced about his retirement two days after Xiaomi launched its K20 Pro and K20 smartphones in India. priced above Rs 20,000, both these smartphones have generated mixed reactions from consumers in India. While some have expressed that Xiaomi may have priced these over the board, others have justified the price tag.

Similarly, Xiaomi’s offline sales head Deepak Nakra had also joined Realme India as its director of sales in July 2019. Deepak had joined Xiaomi in December 2017, probably at the time when Xiaomi was planning out its offline expansion in India.

Speaking about the role, Karan said, “I believe in Unacademy’s vision for quality education and after meeting with Gaurav, I was convinced that I could contribute immensely towards this vision. There are some exciting times in store for the company considering their incredible growth in recent years and I look forward to being a part of it.”
