According to a report by Reuters, Qualcomm hinted at the arrival of a 5G iPhone in 2020 this time. The news came from Qualcomm’s investors conference call.

5G chips will arrive in the ‘fall’ time frame

As per the news agency, the company CFO Akash Palkhiwala mentioned that several handsets with 5G chips will be launching during the ‘Spring’. These devices are likely to come from Samsung and some other Chinese manufacturers. Palkhiwala added that the second wave of flagship handsets with 5G chips will arrive in the ‘fall’ time frame.

Apple and Qualcomm have also joined hands this year for implementing its chipsets in iPhones for at least the next six years.

Qualcomm’s CEO Steve Mollenkopf told the news daily that the firm is supposed to supply its 5G chipsets to 230 device designs, which is more than 150 from last quarter. He added that they are continuing to see strength in the licensing business, particularly after we’ve added in the deal we signed this year with Apple, and are on the front end of the 5G transition, which will impact our product business.

Also, Apple has a history of waiting before launching smartphones based on new technologies, especially when it comes to network upgrades. Apple had also waited for the 4G technology market to mature before launching the first 4G compatible iPhone model.
