- Rumors suggest that Flipkart has acquired brand license for Motorola TVs

Flipkart Vs Amazon in the smart TV market
Like Oneplus smartphones, it is believed that the company will stick to its longstanding online channel partner Amazon for retailing Oneplus TVs in India. Flipkart, if the rumors are to believed, may acquired rights to Motorola’s brand license for competing against Oneplus TVs and Amazon here.
Interestingly, both Amazon and Flipkart have their own private label consumer electronics brands in India as well. While Flipkart sells TVs, washing machines and other consumer electronics under MarQ brand name, Amazon does the same under Amazon Basics brand name. However, amazon has not yet started selling any TVs under Amazon Basics.
Smart TV market in India
According to 6Wresearch, India Smart TV market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 30.2 per cent by 2024. Surge in number of households with easy accessibility to internet, booming e-commerce industry and rise in purchasing power is driving the adoption of smart TVs in the country.
In addition to government initiatives such as Digital India and Make in India, rapid urbanization and growing awareness of smart TVs in tier-II and tier-III cities in the country, has been encouraging the growth of smart TVs in near-future.
Speaking about LED TV brands in the country, Faisal Kawoosa, founder, Techarc has recently told EFY Group, “I expect to see more brands entering in the LED TV space. The focus would be more on bringing the product in the entry to mid level of markets. I would expect the government to put in a real serious effort in TVs at least, where volumes might not be as high as smartphones. But, local content + manufacturing could make some differentiation in the market. This is the segment, which in my opinion, is manageable as India is still in its infancy stage in terms of electronics manufacturing.”
