Walmart-owned e-commerce biggie Flipkart has announced that it is elevating Jeyandran Venugopal to the position of Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO). Venugopal has been associated with Flipkart group for over two years and had previously held the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Myntra before joining Flipkart in January this year.
Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Flipkart Group, CEO, said, “In his new role, Venugopal will continue to strengthen the team, tech investments and help implement new technologies at the pace and the scale that will enable us to become an even more agile, future-ready organisation so that we can bring millions of new customers and sellers on our platform to achieve our vision to democratise e-commerce in India and solve complex local challenges that country faces.”
Building future capabilities
Flipkart says Venogopal will provide strategic leadership to the organisation and define technology vision for the company. His new role will consist of focusing on building future capabilities across product and engineering as per Flipkart. He will also facilitate prioritisation of technology investments and drive continued agility in decision-making while working closely with tech and business leaders across the organisation said Flipkart in a statement.
Development of fashion tech for Myntra and Jabong
In the past, Venugopal held leadership roles in the consumer product industry and tech industry in India as well as US. His responsibilities included leading the development of fashion tech for Myntra and Jabong, platforms and digital media technologies for Amazon and Yahoo. He has also headed an entrepreneurial venture in digital healthcare. He is an alumnus of College of Engineering, Guindy (Anna University) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
