Huawei Will Stop Selling Ultra-low-end Feature Phones Soon

Huawei’s new goals include being the number one smartphone manufacturer in the world. Huawei also envisions Honor to be the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world

China-based Huawei is looking to upgrade from low-end to mid to high-end smart terminals in terms smartphone business soon. Company’s new goals, as announced by Richard Yu, Huawei’s CEO of consumer business also include transformation of the company from ODM non-branded operator customisation to an independent OEM brand.

An official statement issued by the company read, “Honor has cemented its leading position with strong growth, despite a global industry downturn. According to IDC, the global smartphone market recorded a 3.1 per cent year-over-year decline in shipments in the first three quarters of 2018, but Honor bucked that trend and achieved a 27.1 per cent increase.”

Huawei’s new goals also include being the number one smartphone manufacturer in the world. Huawei also envisions Honor to be the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. The company said that it will keep supporting Honor in the development of products and continue its investments in technology innovation, channel distribution and retail strategies while maintaining a firm dual-brand strategy between Honor and Huawei.

Huawei’s new found focus

The company apart from announcing that it might soon stop selling ultra-low-end feature phones with high sales volume but low profit, has also said that it is also looking forward to develop an e-commerce business. Huawei’s official statement read, “Huawei’s consumer business leads the company’s revenue with an increase of 48.4%, outperforming Huawe’s carrier network business.”

It continued, “Also, Honor achieved a year-on-year (YoY) increase of over 170 per cent in international sales in 2018. Honor ranked No.2 in global online sales volume with a 29.4 per cent increase YoY in 2018.”

Huawei said that it is also working on designing an an Emotion UI user experience. The company is looking for more ways to incorporate HiSilicon quad-core processor and Balong chip to its devices.
