The new feature services, as per Jio, will provide end-to-end information services about Kumbh Mela. The religious fair is expected to draw over 130 million pilgrims

After launching JioPhone and JioPhone 2, Reliance has now come out with a Kumbh feature for JioPhones in India. Jio claims that the new features not only offer information about Kumbh fair but can also be used to book travel tickets. It also comes loaded with area routes and maps.
More than 130 million pilgrims are expected to take part in the Kumbh fair, to be held in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. A JioPhone spokesperson said, “We are proud of the fact that everyone in India can now get access to a smartphone at as low as Rs 501 with features and functionalities that are Made in India, Made for India and Made by India.”
The spokesperson continued, “JioPhone is at the centre of innovation and the Kumbh JioPhone initiative continues to demonstrate our focus on bringing disproportionate and true value for the JioPhone consumers. The JioPhone has become the largest selling phone in India simply because of the value it translates into and the features it offers.”
Kumbh JioPhone features
The features of the Kumbh JioPhone include information services about Kumbh. Jio says that users will be able to book travel tickets and view updates on the same. Apart from maps of routes and areas where the Kumbh fair is being organised, the Kumbh JioPhone feature will also come enabled with emergency numbers calling, and information about stays at stations.
An official statement released by the company read, “The Kumbh JioPhone, a unique and differentiated offering, is being introduced to honour the revered tradition of Kumbh in India. The Kumbh JioPhone along with the power of Jio 4G data will ensure that the Kumbh pilgrims can make the most of their pilgrimage. Kumbh JioPhone offers a suite of benefits especially designed for the needs of the pilgrims.”
JioPhone services including free voice calls, unlimited internet, JioTV, JioCinema, JioSaavn music, JioGames, Facebook, Whatsapp and YouTube will remain standard in the Kumbh JioPhone.
Tarun Pathak, Associate Director, Counterpoint Research, commenting on the growth of feature phones in India had earlier said, “The demand for JioPhone continued through Q1 2018 as Reliance Jio’s feature phone market share raced from 0 per cent last year to 36 per cent in Q1 2018. This demand was catalysed by the introduction of a cheaper data plan, for the JioPhone in January: INR 49 (< US$ 1) per month including unlimited voice calling and 1GB of data per month.”
As a matter of fact, Jio has been promoting JioPhone as ‘India’s free smartphone’ aggressively, ever since its launch in the country.
