Oppo unveiled its newest operating software (OS) ColorOS 7 in an event in Bangalore, India. The company also announced a new slogan, smooth and delightful, for the same. Martin Liu, senior strategy manager, Oppo ColorOS, pointed towards India as a key market for the brand while addressing the media.
“India is one of our key markets and we have been reviewing and implementing feedback consistently. The all-new ColorOS 7 delivers a faster and smoother experience to our users in India and around the world. The team at the Oppo headquarters and our Indian R&D team worked closely and collaboratively for one year to conceptualize and globally implement ColorOS 7,” noted Martin Liu.
Like Oneplus, Vivo and Realme, Oppo is a smartphone brand that operates under the umbrella of China-based BBK. Oppo, as per a recent report by Gartner, was in the top five smartphones of the world during 3Q 2019.
Expanding localisation efforts
The company noted that it is aiming to make ColorOS 7 as localised as possible. Oppo currently has 280 team members in its R&D team based in Hyderabad, India. This team, as per Oppo, assists the global OS teams in developing features and also plays a key role while developing localised features for India.
“We strive to make ColorOS broader yet more localised, creating a truly global system that users in different markets can experience and enjoy. This means that we will continue to expand our localisation efforts to ensure that ColorOS is highly adapted to local user needs. This update not only re-imagines the system design but enhances the overall user experience, with a focus on audiovisual and gaming, with localised features unique to India,” said Manoj Kumar, senior principal engineer, Oppo ColorOS.

Partnership with Pentagram
Oppo had partnered with design-agency Pentagram to design this new OS. This agency has worked with the likes of Warner Bros, Sula and Yahoo in the past.
