  • The company will open registration of the product even before launching it
  • Xiaomi was among the first brands to conduct flash sales of smartphones in India

Xiaomi is calling its new sales method as alpha sales in India. The company, probably, for the first time will be opening the registration for its upcoming K20 and K20 Pro smartphones, five days before launching the product in the country.

Redmi India Twitter handle tweeted, “What, when, how, where? Main man Manu Kumar Jain breaks down the Alpha Sale. Watch the video (surprise announcement inside!). Registrations start 12th July, 12 noon. Get notified:”

The China-based smartphone manufacturer has been promoting K20 smartphone series as the flagship killer smartphones in India. Advertisment billboards promoting Xiaomi K20 smartphone series were recently founf placed next to advertisment billboards of Oneplus 7 series.

Two birds with one stone?

This new strategy by Xiaomi looks full proof as it not only will give Xiaomi a chance to create hype for its upcoming smartphone even before it is launched but it will also give Xiaomi ample time to make sure that it has stocks of K20 and K20 Pro smartphones available before the launch. Please note that a lot of consumers have earlier complained about Xiaomi stocks running out in seconds during flash sales.

Xiaomi, as per a recent report by IDC, maintained its leadership position, growing YoY by 8.1 per cent in 1Q19. There were multiple new launches by Xiaomi, namely the Redmi Note 7 series along with Redmi Go. Xiaomi also continued to dominate the online channel with 48.6 per cent share in 1Q19.

Users to pay Rs 855 upfront

This new sales method, adopted by Xiaomi, requires people interested in buying the smartphone to register for it on Flipkart by paying Rs 855. Interestingly, this upfront registration amount, will be adjusted in the final amount that a user will pay for K20 or K20 smartphone. It is to be noted here that Xiaomi has not even announced the price of these smartphones yet.

Manu Kumar Jain, Global VP, Xiaomi, in a video posted by Redmi India also announced that people registering for the product between 12 July 2019 and 17 July 2019 will also be eligible for a surprise when they buy the smartphone. Xiaomi will launch K20 and K20 pro smartphones on 17 July 2019 here.
