The China-based company can introduce a smartwatch anytime during the next two weeks in India

Riversong, a subsidiary of IMG technologies is getting ready to launch a new smartwatch in the country. Electronics For You learnt that the company has named its first smartwatch Riversong Motive.
An individual aware of the developments told Electronics For You, “The company intends to launch the smartwatch in the Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 segment. Stocks of the same have already been sent to PAN India distributors and the official news will come out any time soon.”
In an exclusive conversation, Manvendra K Chandola (MKC), CEO, Riversong India had told EFY about Riversong’s keenness to introduce IOT based smart products in the country. He had said that Riversong’s R&D department was working on two different products in the smart category.
Smartwatch market in India
A recent report by IDC claimed that Xiaomi (41 percent), GOQii (19 percent), Titan, Samsung and Fitbit are the leaders in the overall wearable segment in India during Q3 2018. It had also pointed out that smart wearables market achieved double-digit growth and vendors shipped 102,000 units in Q3 2018.
Jaipal Singh, associate research manager, Client Devices, IDC India had said, “It is too early to say that the India wearables market has started moving towards the smart wearables. However, vendors have started analyzing the big pricing gaps between the basic and smart wearables.”
The report had also pointed out towards a need to identify a new pricing sweet spot for smartwatches. Interestingly, the new Riversong Motive smartwatch may come priced in that sweet spot segment.
Riversong Motive features
This first smartwatch from Riversong will come equipped with a 1.33-inch TFT color screen. Riversong might launch the smartwatch with a battery that offers up to ten days of battery life on a single charge.
The biggest confirmed feature of the smartwatch will be its heart rate monitor. The watch will also come equipped with sleep monitor, sports tracking and a touch button.
