After emerging as a dominant player in smartphone display markets, Samsung Display is now trying to expand into laptop markets

Samsung Display, the panel making unit of Samsung Electronics, announced on Wednesday that it has developed the world’s first organic light emitting diode (OLED) display with ultra-high definition (UHD) for laptops.
The company is planning to launch the 15.6-inch UHD OLED panel next month, The Korean Herald reported.
The company, which is making its foray into the premium laptop market, said that the new ultrahigh resolution display will be optimized for gaming, graphic design and video streaming
Though the OLED panels are thinner and more energy efficient than the company’s LCD products, they can cost $50-60 more than a comparable LCD panel, as per a news agency report.
According to market observers, demand for laptops using UHD OLED panels is likely to increase this year.
Features
According to Samsung Display, the new OLED display is equipped with functions that will appeal to high-end consumers and people who use laptops for gaming. A wide colour gamut and a contrast ratio of exceptional quality are among its most notable features.
The display’s brightness levels range from 0.0005 to 600 units and its contrast ratio is 120,000:1.
“We have no doubt that our new OLED display will offer a far superior visual experience to laptop users worldwide,” Yun Jae-nam, head of the marketing team at Samsung Display, was quoted as saying
