- Lava has already temporarily closed its smartphone manufacturing from Noida facility
- Xiaomi and Lenovo-Motorola have also made the announcements
Many smartphone brands including the likes of Lava, Xiaomi and Motorola have announced shutting manufacturing operations in various parts of India amidst Coronavirus outbreak. It is to be noted here that various state governments have ordered lockdowns in many parts of the country.
”At SPPL, health and well-being of our employees and citizens is of utmost importance to us. Considering the same, we have closed down our manufacturing units in all three locations Noida, Jammu and Una as per the Government instruction until 31st March. All the other teams are working from home including the CXO team,” stated Avneet Singh Marwah, CEO, SPPL.
Super Plastronics Private Limited (SPPL) manufactures and retails Thomson and Kodak branded TVs in India. The company has manufaturing units located in Noida, Jammu and Una in India.
A recent report published in the Economic Times stated that Lenovo owned Motorola will shut its units temporarily starting today. However, the company has not mentioned the duration its factoried will be closed for.
Similarly China-based Xiaomi has also suspened operations at its eight factories in India. A Xiaomi spokesperson told the Economic Times that Xiaomi’s warehouses, service centers, corporate offices and Mi Homes will abide by the lockdown.
Manu Kumar Jain, global VP, Xiaomi, posted a tweet saying that the company is postponing the first sale of Note 9 Pro Max smartphone in India. However, the company will organise the sale of Redmi Note 9 Pro today.
“Mi fans, due to recent state lockdowns, we will have to postpone the 1st sale of Redmi Note 9 Pro Max to a later date. I would like to confirm that the sale of Redmi Note 9 Pro will still happen as scheduled, tomorrow (24th) at 12 noon. Thanks for your understanding! No Mi Without You,” read Jain’s tweet.
