LG Becomes First Global TV Manufacturer to Support Apple Homekit

LG Electronics has announced that Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit are available starting July 25 on its 2019 AI TV lineup, making LG the first global TV manufacturer to support HomeKit. These Apple features will be available through a firmware update for 2019 LG OLED TVs, NanoCell TVs and UHD TVs with ThinQ AI capability.

“LG remains at the forefront of TV technological innovation because of our never-ending quest to deliver the best home viewing experience,” said Brian Kwon, president LG Mobile Communications and Home Entertainment companies. He added, “With Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support, we are demonstrating our commitment to offering consumer benefits that go beyond just best-in-class picture quality.”

Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri support

LG Electronics India had recently announced the launch of TVs featuring its Artificial Intelligence (AI) ThinQ platform. These AI ThinQ televisions from LG start from 80 cms (32-inch) to 195 cms (77-inch) between the price range of Rs 24,990 to Rs 10,99,990.

Younchul Park, director-Home Entertainment, LG Electronics India, said, “We’re thrilled to introduce Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and AirPlay2 in our televisions that will certainly bring more convenience to our customers. This addition is LG’s commitment to simplifying the customers’ lives. With this built-in technology, users of LG televisions will be able to do much more than simply watching TV like, they can read news updates, check weather forecast, order food, essentially they can control their surroundings in a much easier and efficient way. We are confident that this new feature will elevate the home entertainment experience of both our existing and future consumer.”

It is to be noted here that LG has now become one of the few TV brands that offer support for Alexa, Google as well as Siri. LG’s official statement read, “HomeKit enables users to conveniently control their smart home with the Home app or via Siri on their Apple devices. LG AI TVs can be easily added to the Home app, from which users can access basic TV functions such as power, volume and source. LG AI TVs can also be added to scenes or automations along with other HomeKit accessories.”
