Xiaomi has been trolling Oneplus

Xiaomi, another China-based consumer electronics company, has been taking digs at Oneplus, since the latter launched its Oneplus 7 smartphone series in India. Probably as a part of its marketing startegy, Mi has been calling its upcoming smartphone a flagship killer.

Mi even put up K20 smartphone signboards right next to ones that were promoting Oneplus 7 smartphone series. Manu Kumar Jain, tweeting the pictures of this billboard had posted, “Jain’s tweet read, “Starkly superior to the latest one!” +1 if you liked these punny ads! Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro coming soon! The Flagship Killer 2.0.” Have you noticed it yet? If yes, take a selfie and share it with me.”

BBK is in a strong position

It is to be noted here that China based BBK, with all its smartphone brands put together, is in a very strong position. Smartphone brands including the Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Oneplus, Iqoo and Reno operate under the umbrella of BBK.

Vivo, Oppo and Realme, as per a report by Canalys Research, shipped 8.6 million devices during Q1 2019. Samsung, as per the same report, shipped about 7.3 million devices during Q1 2019. Xiaomi, on the other hand, was able to ship 9.5 million devices in the same quarter. Shipments made by Oneplus were not mentioned in the report.

Rushabh Doshi, research director at Canalys, said, “Vivo’s expensive bets on the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket are paying off. Vivo has made several shrewd marketing investments, which also include signing internationally popular Bollywood actor Aamir
Khan as its brand ambassador. But it faces an intense battle in 2019, as Oppo’s Cricket World Cup sponsorship and Samsung’s fresh offensive with the new M series threaten to stifle momentum.”

Interestingly, Robert Downey Jr (popular for playing Ironman) has been promoting Oneplus 7 Series smartphones this year.
