Samsung to Start Using Environment Friendly Packaging

The brand will replace plastic packaging with molded pulp trays, recycled paper containers and bags made of recycled plastic

Samsung Electronics announced that 2019 will see it begin to switch to more environmentally-friendly packaging formats across its portfolio.It is to be noted here that Samsung has been introducing environmentally-friendly packaging to its notebook computer line since 2018.

Brand’s official statement read, “Going forward, Samsung looks to expand this ‘eco-conscious packaging’ initiative into its wider product line including its mobile devices, wearables, TVs, refrigerators and other home appliance products.”

Plans for 2019

The Korea based consumer electronics giant is planning to replace the plastic trays in mobile phones, tablets and wearable device packages with paper by the ed of 2019. It also said that plastic packages for cables and earphones will also be replaced with paper or bio-plastics.

Similarly, the protective packaging used in TVs, washing machines, refrigerators, air-conditioners, ovens and vacuum-cleaners will also be replaced with bio-materials by 2019.

The brand said that the plastic packaging will be replaced with molded pulp trays, recycled paper containers and bags made of recycled plastic. Samsung’s official statement read, “In a nutshell, traditionally understood ‘plastic’ packaging is to be replaced for 2019 by molded pulp (a fusion material that uses no wood fibers and incorporates waste by-products such as sugarcane residue) trays, recycled paper containers and bags made of recycled plastic and bio-based, fossil fuel-free materials like starch.”
