- Sony is withdrawing from the event on account of coronavirus attack
- LG and Amazon have also withdrawn from the event
After the news of Korea-based LG withdrawing from the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2020 in Barcelona, Spain, Sony has pulled itself out from being a participant in the even as well. The company, on account of coronavirus outbreak, has withdrawn its name from the MWC 2020.
“Sony has been closely monitoring the evolving situation following the novel coronavirus outbreak, which was declared a global emergency by the World Health Organization on January 30th, 2020. As we place the utmost importance on the safety and well being of our customers, partners, media and employees, we have taken the difficult decision to withdraw from exhibiting and participating at MWC 2020 in Barcelona, Spain,” the company said in a statement.
LG has withdrawn too
LG Electronics has also withdrawn its participation from the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The company said that it is closely monitoring the situation related to the novel coronavirus outbreak. This virus outbreak was recently declared a global emergency by the World Health Organization as the it continues to spread outside China.
“With the safety of its employees, partners and customers foremost in mind, LG has decided to withdraw from exhibiting and participating in MWC 2020 later this month in Barcelona, Spain. This decision removes the risk of exposing hundreds of LG employees to international travel which has already become more restrictive as the virus continues to spread across borders,” read LG’s official statement.
“The GSMA knows that the Coronavirus has created disruption, in particular for exhibitors and attendees from around the world, including the Five to 6,000 (five – six per cent) who have historically attended from China. Our sympathy goes to all those affected. We are grateful for the preventative measures our Chinese exhibitors have put in place, notably ZTE and Huawei,” read an official statement released by the organisers of MWC on Nine February 2020.
It continued, “Today, the GSMA is moving ahead as planned and will host MWC Barcelona 24-27 February 2020. While the GSMA confirm some large exhibitors have decided not to come to the show this year with others still contemplating next steps, we remain more than 2,800 exhibitors strong.”
