Consumer electronics player Sony has announced setting up of a Research and development center in India. As per the company, the first centre in the country will be opened in Bangalore by 2020 becoming one of the seven Sony’s global research centers.
To strengthen its research and development capabilities in India
The company informed that it looks to expand the diversity of its global R&D operations and this move will strengthen its research and development capabilities in India as it seeks to promote research activities and foster the growth of a diverse pool of engineering talent.
Recently, Sony India announced its partnership with National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) and KEDMan Skilling Pvt. Ltd. (a joint venture between Kunskapsskolan Eduventures and Manav Rachna Educational Institutions) to provide job opportunities to candidates from their talent pool.
As per a report by Counterpoint, Sony had a share of less than 0.01 per cent in the Indian smartphone market in Q1 2019.
