Oppo’s undying love for advertising at big level sports tournaments has been renewed with the renewal of its sponsorship contract with FC Barcelona club. The BBK owned smartphone company will continue to be one of the club’s global partners for the next three seasons, through to June 30, 2022.

Alen Wu, global VP and president of Overseas Business, Oppo said, ““We are proud to expand our work with FC Barcelona. It’s partnerships like these that show why Barca is ‘More than a Club’, and Oppo is more than a smartphone company. The European market overall is an integral region for Oppo as we grow our presence there – and we know that in order to grow we must connect with our customers. And today, that’s by waving the red and blue, the Colors of Miracles.”

Interestingly, Oppo has recently sponsored a prize pool of Rs 1.5 Crore (15 million) for a Pubg online game tournament as well. Oppo is now connected with football, cricket, tennis and online smartphone games.

Company’s official statement read, “As a result of this agreement, FC Barcelona and OPPO will be working together in different areas, such as digital branded content to raise engagement among the fans and TV advertising, among others. OPPO will also be gaining visibility on first team match days at the Camp Nou.”

BBK’s history with sponsorship events

BBK, the owner of Oppo, Reno, Vivo, Oneplus, Iqoo and Realme smartphone brands, has had a long partnership with global sports events and teams in the recent past. Apart from Oppo being a sponsor of the Indian cricket team, Vivo has been a sponsor of Indian Premier League as well. It is to be noted here that IPL is one of the most watched cricket tournaments in the world.

Similarly, Oppo has recently signed up with Wimbledon Tennis tournament. This tournament is considered as the world cup for tennis players. Apart from outdoor games, BBK has been advertising with Pubg online game as well. BBK’s Oppo and Vivo have been sponsoring Pubg tournaments since last one year in India.

A report by Canalys Research said that Vivo, Oppo and Realme, together shipped 8.6 million devices in Q1 2019. The number of devices shipped by OnePlus are not added to the number. These 8.6 million devices shipped, technically make BBK the second player in the list to ship most devices.

Rushabh Doshi, research director at Canalys, said, “Vivo’s expensive bets on the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket are paying off. Vivo has made several shrewd marketing investments, which also include signing internationally popular Bollywood actor Aamir
Khan as its brand ambassador. But it faces an intense battle in 2019, as Oppo’s Cricket World Cup sponsorship and Samsung’s fresh offensive with the new M series threaten to stifle momentum.”
