Apple’s 2019 Plans for iPhone Models Include a 3-D camera: Report

The Cupertino based tech giant is facing tough times in many of its international markets. Many reports had earlier suggested that production of several iPhone models were reduced by Apple partners

In a move that seems focused on bringing iPhone sales back on track, Apple is planning to include a 3-D camera in its line-up of 2019 iPhone models. A report by Bloomberg suggests that the 3-D camera might help Apple’s push into augmented reality.

Bloomberg report read, “The rear-facing, longer-range 3-D camera is designed to scan the environment to create three-dimensional reconstructions of the real world. It will work up to about 15 feet from the device, the people said. That’s in contrast with the current iPhone 3-D camera system, which points toward users and operates at distances of 25 to 50 centimeters to power Apple’s Face ID facial-recognition feature.”

It is to be noted here that the Cupertino based tech giant is facing tough times in many of its international markets. Many reports had earlier suggested that production of several iPhone models were reduced by huge numbers by Apple partners.

Apple’s premium segment shipments in India fell 25 per cent

A recent report by Counterpoint reserach had claimed that Apple’s premium segment shipments declined 25 per cent YoY in Q4 2018. A possible reason behind Apple’s declining shipments in India, as per the report, is extreme high-premium-commanding pricing for iPhones. It is worth mentioning here that Apple continues to choose to pay 20 per cent import duty on new imported iPhone models instead of manufacturing in India.

Counterpoint is also expecting that the Cupertino based giant will start manufacturing 2019 iPhone models locally in India. The entry of android premium offerings by several China based smartphone brands including the likes of Huawei, and aggressive sales and distribution strategy from OnePlus, Samsung, and Google may further make year 2019 tough for Apple.

Apple’s new system uses a laser scanner

Bloomberg reported, “Apple’s new system uses a laser scanner, rather than the existing dot-projection technology which doesn’t work as well over longer distances, according to the people, who asked not to be identified discussing unreleased features.”

It further read, “That’s just one of many new features — including a third, more advanced camera, enhanced photo-capture tools and a more powerful chip — that Apple plans to include in coming generations of iPhones, the people said.”
