Sunil Raina, president and business head, Lava International told Ians, “Along with setting up sales and service infrastructure in the African continent, Lava is also preparing to initiate its manufacturing capabilities in Egypt and Ethiopia, aiming to capture 20 per cent market share by 2020.”
Lava will be selling Z and Iris series smartphones in the markets. The company also has plans to introduce its Champion series feature phones in African markets.
Lava already present in Egypt
The brand is already doing business in Egypt since 2017. It claims that it has a market share of more than 15 per cent in the country in the sub-$100 smartphone segment.
Lava, as per Mr Raina is also looking to expand its base to six more African countries namely South Africa, Ethiopia Uganda, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, and Senegal. Interestingly, another India based smartphone brand Micromax had recently announced its entry into South Africa.
Raina told IANS that the company has also received an invitation to set up a manufacturing unit in Uzbekistan.
