It is already in discussion with mobile phone vendors for assembling 5G mobile devices. These could be launched as early as April next year in India
The report read, “Reliance Jio is drawing up plans to bundle its own 5G handsets with 5G services by April next year for which it is already in discussion with vendors for assembling the phones, sources in the knowledge of the development said.”
Jio might have a upper hand in 5G handset market
Sources told the daily that Mukesh Ambani’s Jio will have a upper-hand while launching 5G handsets and 5G network. It is to be noted here that Jio already has a 5G-ready-LTE-network with pan India fiber-spread.
As a matter of fact, Jio through reliance digital and Jio stores, may have the biggest on-ground presence in the country. The company may also enjoy an upper-hand in the rural Indian markets which are not only price-sensitive both in terms of handsets and network prices, but are also very tough to target for sales as well. It is worth mentioning here that many international and local mobile handset brands have already tied up with Jio in the country.
JioPhone leads global feature phone market
A report published by Counterpoint Research in May 2018 had referred to Jio as the leader in the feature phone market. It had mentioned, “The global feature phone market grew 38 per cent annually in Q1 2018, driven by strong shipments of Reliance JioPhone in India and the return of Nokia HMD. India alone contributed to almost 43 per cent of the total feature phone shipments in Q1 2018.”
The report further added, “Reliance JioPhone became the best-selling feature phone model in Q1 2018, Jio was also the best-selling feature phone brand in Q1 2018. It was followed by Nokia HMD, iTel, Samsung and Tecno which formed the list of the top five brands.”
