Xiaomi announced Poco as an independent brand recently
China-based Xiaomi had recently announced Poco to be a standalone company. The brand had been operating as a sub-smartphone brand of Xiaomi. Poco had launched Poco F1, as its first smartphone, around two and a half years ago.
“Poco F1 is an extremely popular phone across user groups, and remains a top contender in its category even in 2020. We feel the time is right to let Poco operate on its own now, which is why we’re excited to announce that POCO will spin off as an independent brand,” Manu Kumar Jain, global VP, Xiaomi had said in a statement.
The brand has recently hiked prices of Poco X2 citing increased GST as reason. Poco X2 is the second smartphone launched by the company.
TWS market in India
The size of the global market for true wireless hearables, as per Counterpoint Research, had reached 33 million units (USD 4.1 billion) in Q3 2019, growing 22 per cent QoQ. Apple had continued its leadership in the segment by growing sales of the second generation AirPods.
Samsung, as per the report, had failed to secure its second place, slipping to third place with six per cent share. Xiaomi rose to second place from fourth as sales volume expanded significantly mainly from the Chinese market on the evaluation that its Redmi Airdots is a great budget product with a price point around $20. JBL and Beats were the following leading brands and ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
