Samsung Says Large Screen TV Sales Soaring in India

  • Ongoing cricket world cup is a primary reason behind the surge in sales

Korea-based Samsung Electronics has said that sales of large screen QLED 8K, QLED and UHD TVs are soaring in the country. Indian cricket fans, as per the company, are upgrading to large screen TVs to watch their home team battle it out in the ongoing Cricket World Cup.

Samsung’s official statement read, “In the month of May, just ahead of the World Cup, Samsung India saw sales of 55 inch and above TVs, which include the Company’s QLED TV line up and Ultra High Definition TV line up, grow over 110% over last year. Samsung has also seen the sale of ultra-premium 75 inch and above TVs grow five times in the same period, indicating consumer preference for larger screen TVs to enjoy the World Cup.”

Sony, another consumer electronics major, had recently said that it was also looking for doubling large screen TV sales in India. Sachin Rai, head of Bravia business, Sony India had said, “More and more people want to view cricket through the most immersive experience possible and we are sure that with our Sony Bravia TVs, we will provide an on-ground like match viewing experience to cricket lovers.”

Offers tailored on lines of ongoing Cricket world cup

Both the companies have announced promotional offers to drive large screen TV sales in the country. Themed around the ongoing Cricket world cup, these offers include EMI schemes and freebies with large screen TVs.

Samsung’s official statement read, “This World Cup, consumers will be able to enjoy a host of offers on Samsung TVs such as Amazon Echo Plus with the premium QLED TV range, Amazon Echo Dot with the 4K UHD TV range, attractive finance options like zero down payment, 10-year no screen burn-in warranty on QLED TVs and two-year warranty on panels. This will also be accompanied with up to 15 per cent cashback.”

Sony, on similar lines had announced cashback offers of up to five per cent. It has also collaborated with banks and is offering 12/4 and 18/4 EMI schemes. Interestingly, most of these offers are ending in mid-July 2019, exactly the same time the ongoing Cricker world cup is ending.

Samsung official statement added, “The cricket fever this year has led to Indians migrating to larger screens not just in metro cities but in smaller towns as well. Samsung has seen customers in smaller towns such as Vijayawada, Vishakhapatnam, Hubli, Jodhpur, Agra, Jabalpur, Nagpur, Raipur, Ludhiana, Dehradun, Jalandhar, Cochin, Coimbatore, Baroda, Ranchi, Tirupati, Asansol, Madurai and Kolhapur, among others upsizing to larger screen TVs, that is evident in the rising demand for Samsung’s QLED TVs in these cities.”
