Manu Kumar Jain, MD, Xiaomi India, had earlier teased about 5 big Mi announcements on his Twitter account. Interestingly 2019 is Xiaomi’s fifth year in the country
A recent social media post made through official Xiaomi Twitter handle may have hinted towards company’s plans of launching bigger Mi TVs in the country. Xiaomi’s current TV portfolio in India consists of a 55-inch TV as its biggest offering. Xiaomi also sells 32-inch, 43-inch and 49-inch smart TVs in India.
The Twitter post read, “Time to go from small to big. Make space, ‘The Bigger Picture’ unveiling on 10th Jan, at 11 AM from Mi TV India.” Interestingly, Manu Kumar Jain, MD, Xiaomi India, had earlier teased about 5 big announcements that Xiaomi is going to make in India shortly.
Xiaomi had last year claimed of selling 1 million TVs in the Indian market. The brand had also announced its TV manufacturing plans in India. It said that the brand is collaborating with Dixon Technologies to set up a TV manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh.
According to a report by Research and Markets, India Smart TV Market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 30.2 per cent during 2018-24. The report suggested that households in India are at a cusp of transition and a shift in preference has been witnessed from conventional TV sets to smart TV sets. Interestingly, Mi only offers smart TVs in the Indian market.
It read, “Changing lifestyle of middle income population is attributed to rise in income level, increasing awareness, adoption of new technology and increasing internet penetration. Additionally, government initiatives primarily in tier-II and tier-III cities are some of the key factors which are likely to bolster the growth of Indian smart TV market during the forecast period.”
Possible launch of Mi 65-inch and 75-inch TVs
Xiaomi currently offers 65-inch and 75-inch TVs in markets other then India. In fact, the China based brand had launched its biggest 75-inch TV in November 2018. The brand for some reason, had not launched the same in India at the time. Mi also has a curve variant of 65-inch TV in its portfolio.
It is to be noted here that only a handful of brands including Sony, Samsung and LG offer 75-inch TVs in the world currently. However, the tag of biggest TVs in the world is owned by LG. LG already sells 105-inch TV in many International markets along India. Vu, an American TV brand had recently announced the launch of 100-inch TV in India.
Mi TV India tweeted, “Still stuck with a small screen? It’s time to explore the big world full of colours. #TheBiggerPicture coming soon.”
Both the Mi 65 and 75-inch TVs, that were launched in China, are based on 4K technology. Like all other Xiaomi TVs, these are also offered as smart TVs in Mi’s home, and international markets.
Mi 65-inch TV and 75-inch price
The 65-inch Mi TV was launched at CNY 5,999 (roughly Rs. 63,500) in China. Xiaomi may put a almost similar price tag on the 65-inch TV in India. Manu Jain had recently announced price cuts on several Mi TVs in India. He had said that the company is extending revised GST benefits to consumers.
Brands including the likes of MarQ, iFFALCON and Intex are currently offering 65-inch TVs at prices below Rs 65,000 in India. 65-inch TVs from brands like LG and Samsung are retailing upwards of Rs 1,50,000 in the country.
Mi 75-inch TV was launched at a price of CNY 7,999 (roughly Rs.82,300) in China. It is worth mentioning here that no brand in India is offering a 4K TV in less than Rs 1,50,000.
Affordable prices have always been one of Xiaomi’s biggest USPs, and it seems as if the brand is ready to repeat the same story with its 65 and 75-inch TVs in India.
