LG to launch IoT enabled ceiling fans in Indian market by June


South Korean consumer electronics maker LG would foray into the premium ceiling fans segment this season, which will have advance features such as Internet of Things (IoT) technology, a top company official has said.

The smart fans would be connected through the Internet and would automatically adjust its speed according to change in temperature and could be controlled from anywhere through cloud computing. “This year we are preparing to launch ceiling fan,” LG Electronics India Managing Director Ki Wan Kim told PTI.

The fans, which are made specially for the Indian market would focus on “energy efficiency” and “aesthetics designs” and would have higher value propositions, he added. “It would have IoT technology in some premium products, which would adjust speed automatically,” Kim said, adding that it would be convenient to maintain. “It would have removable parts, which will be easy to clean and wash after dismantling it.”

The company has not yet come out the pricing and said that they are working on that. LG plans to launch three models in which one would have IoT features. IoT refers to a network of devices and sensors connected through the Internet. Besides, LG, which is also introducing IoT enabled products in different segments here, may go for mass production, if the volumes picks up in the next 2-3 years.

The company, which has introduced IoT enabled products in segments as washing machines, is hoping that sooner or later they would have telecom operators on board for such products. LG India would also focus on producing energy efficient products by extending energy saving inverter technology to other product range, reported India Today.

“We would like to apply our inverter technology to all product, which is presently for air-conditioning. This year, we have applied it in window ac and then use in washing machine also and refrigerators,” he said. Under inverter technology, AC current is converted into DC and saves energy by converting frequency.
