Mavic Mini

Dà-Jiāng Innovations (DJI) has launched the Mavic Mini foldable drone. It has priced it at for $399 (approx. Rs 28,250) for the solo piece while the Mavic Mini Fly More Combo with 360 degree propeller cage, two-way charging hub, three batteries, three sets of extra propellers and a carrying case is priced for $499 (approx. Rs 35,300)  The company claims this drone is the smallest and lightest DJI drone. The drone is designed for beginners with simple operation techniques as per DJI.

The drone weighs under 250 grams and comes with up to 30 minutes of flight time through high-grade motors and light design says DJI. The device is connected through WiFi to deliver stable HD live feed.

Three modes for flying

It also has GPS receivers and downward visual sensors for ground detection. The drone can be controlled through the DJI Fly app where pilots can choose between three modes for flying- Position (P) mode for basic operation, Sport (S) mode for more experienced pilots and CineSmooth (C) mode for content creators to shoot smoother shots and more cinematic footage.

DJI says the camera on the drone is a 12MP one with a 24mm f2.8 lens and three-axis gimbal. This feature will allow the user to take 12MP photographs and 2.7K video recording at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps and a bit rate of 40Mbps.

Rocket, circle, dronies and helix

The drone has four pre-programmed flight manoeuvres – rocket, circle, dronies and helix. With the rocket option, the drone can fly straight with the camera pointing down and heights set at 40, 60, 80, 100 or 120 feet. The circle mode will let the drone move around an object at a constant altitude and distance.

Dronie mode will move the drone backwards and upward with subject tracking and helix will make the drone fly upward spiralling around the subject. The drone also has geofencing capabilities which helps the drone pilots avoid restricted areas claims DJI. It is powered by a 2400mAh battery.
